Kimberly Monzón, Soprano

Kimberly Monzón was recently awarded first place in the professional division of the Coeur d’Alene Symphony 2007 Young Artists’ Competition. In March of 2007 she made her debut with Opera Idaho in their production of Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris. In 2006 she starred as Zerbina in La Serva Padrona, and performed Annina in La Traviata with Spokane Opera. She was a Pensacola Opera Resident Artist in the 2006 season, and made her mainstage debut as Frasquita in Carmen as well as covering the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor.

Other roles to the soprano’s credit include Tytania in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Ännchen in Der Freischütz, Lucy in A Room With a View, Johanna in Sweeney Todd, Fräulein Silberklang in Der Schauspieldirektor, Erste Frau in Die Zauberflöte, Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos, and Lady Larken in Once Upon A Mattress. As a former Apprentice Artist with Des Moines Metro Opera in 2005, she performed roles in scenes, such as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Norina in Don Pasquale, Rose in Street Scene, and Blanche de la Force in Dialogues des Carmélites.

A versatile concert performer, Ms. Monzón‘s repertoire ranges from A Gershwin Celebration with Seagle Music Colony to Bach’s Gott ist Unsre Zuversicht and Pachelbel’s Deus in adjutorium with the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Chamber Orchestra. She has performed recitals with Opera Plus! in Coeur d’Alene, ID, as well as operatic selections in concert with the Coeur d’Alene Symphony.

Upcoming engagements include the Sandman and Dew Fairy in Hansel and Gretel, and Serafina in Il campanello di note, both with Spokane Opera, and Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly with Opera Plus! Ms. Monzón received a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston. She holds her Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music.
