Soloists Carlos Monzón, Bass-baritone
Mr. Monzón was an Artist in Residence with Pensacola Opera during their 2006 season, where he performed Morales in Carmen, as well as covering Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor. He was an Apprentice Artist with Des Moines Metro Opera in their 2005 season, covering the Four Villains in Les Contes d’Hoffman, and performing roles in scenes, such as Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Osmin in Entführung aus dem Serail, and Sparafucile in Rigoletto. Mr. Monzón‘s performance repertoire includes Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Kaspar in Der Freischutz, Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Colline in La bohème, Lord Sidney in Il Viaggio à Rheims, Mustafa in L’italiana in Algeri, Frank Murrant in Street Scene, and Don Alfonso in Cosí fan tutte among others. A seasoned concert performer, Mr. Monzón has sung a wide variety of concert repertoire, encompassing Zarzuela, Handel’s Messiah, and Brahms’ Requiem. He was requested to participate in the Week of Music with Houston Grand Opera to workshop new operas Salsipuedes by Daniel Catán, as well as Lisystrata by Mark Adamo, in which he sang the roles Guzmán and Guiser respectively. Upcoming performances include Il Bonzo in Madama Butterfly with Opera Plus! in Coeur d’Alene, ID and Don Annibale Pistacchio in Il campanello di notte with Spokane Opera. Mr. Monzón received a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston. |
